Community Water Grant
Council has been successful in obtaining a Community Water Grant of $30,120 to install a 328,096 litre tank for storage of water from the Railway Dam. Residents may not have been aware that since Council took over the Railway Dam (from Westrail) in the 70’s the water collected in the winter months is supplied by gravitation by a pipeline to a holding dam adjoining the Depot for irrigation of the Williams Oval. This scheme is inefficient as water is wasted through evaporation and seepage which only adds to Councils reliance on scheme water and therefore the cost of maintaining the oval.
Coupled with the above is the Water Corporation’s intention to relocate the sewerage effluent pond to the Railway Dam site (projected for 2008/2009) and install a water re-use scheme which will result in treated water being used also for watering the oval.
It is anticipated that the installation of the tank will be undertaken in the next summer.
