Disability Access & Inclusion Plan
DISABILITY ACCESS AND INCLUSION PLAN (DAIP)
What is a DAIP?
A DAIP is a document detailing a local authorities commitment to ensuring that all people with disabilities can access all information, services and facilities provided by the local authority and that they can be included in the community like all other community members.
The preparation of a DAIP is required under the WA Disability Services Act 1993 (amended 2004), and must include a public consultation period.
What is the Shire doing?
The Shire of Williams is currently preparing a DAIP for the Shire, and is seeking public comment from the community as to areas that can be improved upon in accessibility – inclusive of physical access and general access to information, services and facilities.
Community input is welcomed by written response to the Shire – either by post or email (shiwill@treko.net.au); or by telephoning the Community Development Officer, Heidi Cowcher (Tuesday’s & Thursday’s) at the Shire on 9885 1005 to discuss your ideas.
What next?
The Shire will collate all responses, and then prepare a Draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan, which will be made available for public comment prior to submission to the Disability Services Commission by 31 December 2007.
The Shire will then be required to review this Plan every 12 months, and provide written feedback to the Commission on achievements & milestones. This Plan will be comprehensively reviewed every 5 years (next review due by end 2012).
