New Label Requirement
New laws have been introduced requiring WA owners of electric and hybrid vehicles to affix a blue triangle EV label to their licence plates.
Hydrogen vehicle owners are also now required to affix a yellow pentagon H label to their licence plates.
From 1 January 2026 vehicles built or modified from 1 January 2019 must display an EV or H label to help emergency services respond safely. From 1 January 2027, fines will apply if owners fail to display the appropriate label.
The labels are affixed to a metal plate and retail for around $10 a pair. They can be purchased at automotive retailers across WA or ordered online.
They are not available from DTMI Service Centres or from DTMI Agents.
For more information, customers can also visit the Electric and Hydrogen Vehicle Labels Requirements | Transport WA page on the DTMI website.
